Ambulance ServiceThe Bloomfield Ambulance Service provides service to the city of Bloomfield and the Bloomfield Rural Fire District. Bloomfield has 30 certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) functioning on a volunteer basis. The ambulance service building was constructed in 1992. The rescue unit is in excellent condition and is well-equipped with the standard first-aid and stabilizing equipment, including a defibrillator. A public access defibrillator has been installed at the Bloomfield Community Center. Fire DepartmentThe City of Bloomfield Fire Department and Bloomfield Rural Fire Department operate as a volunteer organization with 35 members. The service area includes the City of Bloomfield and the surrounding rural fire district area consisting of approximately 342 square miles. On-going training and mutual aid coordination is handled at regular monthly meetings, with special training sessions provided several times each year. The fire trucks are in excellent condition and are well-equipped. The "jaws-of-life" is provided and operated by the Bloomfield Fire Department, which works in conjunction with the Bloomfield Ambulance Service. A thermal imaging camera, 1,800-gallon tanker, and a recent renovation to the fire hall enable the department to provide excellent service to the area. Police DepartmentThe City of Bloomfield has a chief of police and one officer who have jurisdiction within the City and on all City property. The department provides full-time service. Communication and dispatching is through the Sheriff's Office 911 system. The Knox County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Game & Parks, and Nebraska Fire Marshall also have jurisdiction.Community Center/City Hall/PoliceThe Community Center and City Hall are located near the center of the business district. Built in 1995, this masonry structure is in excellent condition and is in compliance with ADA requirements. The building houses the city administrator's office, clerk's office, police department, and council chambers.The facility also offers a community room, which is utilized by various civic organizations including the senior citizens group for regular meetings and special events, such as potluck dinners. The city clerk's office handles the reservations for the use of the community room. The council room is also available for smaller groups.
LibraryThe Bloomfield Public Library was organized in 1908. The Bloomfield Library Foundation completed a new public library building in 2000. The building houses the Bloomfield Public Library and Learning Center. High speed internet access is available on a number of public computers. The latest effort to boost technology includes participation in Library Broadband Builds Nebraska Communities, a project through the Nebraska Library Commission. The elevation is 1,673 feet, the runway is 2,700 feet in length and is paved and lighted. This facility also offers tie downs, hangars, telephone, and fuel. A new administration building and expanded taxi-ways were constructed in 1999. The nearest commercial air transportation is in Yankton, South Dakota, 30 miles away.Medical ClinicsMedical, dental, and optical services are available in Bloomfield. The Bloomfield Dental Clinic, headed by Dr. Tusha, provides general family dentistry including oral surgery and orthodontics. Kevin Lauck, PA-C and Sunny Nagengast, RN, APRN of Bloomfield Medical Clinic, P.C. provide a general family practice with laboratory and X-ray services. Dr. Anderson, of Vision Care Associates, provides optometrist's services in Bloomfield. First Chiropractic Center provides chiropractic services.Nursing Home FacilityThe Good Samaritan Society-Bloomfield is a beautiful modern facility featuring 19 private rooms and a state-of-the-art physical therapy department. Outpatient therapy was expanded in 1995 to better serve the community. Good Samaritan Society-Bloomfield's rehabilitation therapy is known throughout northern Nebraska for its excellent record. The facility helps many residents walk out the door and return to their homes. Good Samaritan Society-Bloomfield is licensed by the State of Nebraska, Medicare and Medicaid cerified. It is a non-profit corporation belonging to the Evangelical Good Samaritan Society.
